Big Band Legacy.gif (40057 bytes)

$15.00 plus $2.00 S.& H.

The Rusinko Jazz Orchestra is made up of professional musicians, who are friends and colleagues of the late Emil Rusinko, who founded this ensemble 25 years ago. Many of the current players performed with Emil a good portion of that time. The group rehearses twice a month, and thoroughly enjoys the fellowship of the members, and the experience of performing the best big band arrangements available today. Among the arrangers are Kenneth Farrar, who wrote a majority of the charts in our repertoire, and our dear friend and mentor, the late Hank Levy, who also attended and conducted many of our rehearsals over the years. We lost both Hank and Emil in 2001, but we keep their spirit alive as we continue the “Big Band Legacy” they have left us. We, therefore, dedicate this CD to their memory and hope to continue performing and recording for many years to come.

Hank Levy was one of the most prolific, creative writers in the world of big band jazz, and his claim to fame was his use of “odd” time signatures. Exploring this field along with Don Ellis and Stan Kenton, he wrote many compositions and arrangements for them, greatly enhancing their repertoire, and keeping them on the cutting edge of jazz innovation.

This 2-Disc CD was digitally recorded live at a concert on February 26, 2004, and features some of Hank’s best “odd-time” compositions, played by some of his finest musicians, who have studied and performed with him for many years. A truly remarkable documentary on Hank’s colorful life was recently produced by Dick Slade of Audio Visual Artists Productions in Silver Spring, MD. Many of the performers here are also in the video. If you enjoy this music, you should definitely check out this wonderful portrait of a uniquely innovative man.

This video tribute to Hank Levy by Audio Visual Artists Productions (AVA), 5 years in the making, covers more than half a century. Hank has long established himself as one of the jazz world’s most innovative & exciting big-band composers and leaders, and an inspirational educator as well. His use of exotic time signatures, recorded by the Stan Kenton and Don Ellis orchestras, brought him worldwide recognition. His colorful life is chronicled in this production, filled with emotional recollections, “road stories”, and insightful, often humorous, commentaries from Hank, himself, and close to 50 other people, whose lives Hank has enriched. Amongst them are famous colleagues, Maynard Ferguson, Peter Erskine, Sal Salvador, Glenn Stuart, Clem DeRosa, Milcho Leviev, and Audree Coke Kenton.

Order the fascinating and entertaining tribute, and learn all about this legendary and prolific genius of jazz.

Before Cable TV, I-Pods, the Internet, illegal mp3 downloading, DVDs, and HDTV, people went to night clubs, supper clubs, hotel lounges, and other venues of “LIVE” entertainment. One of the top bands to appear in these clubs was the Admirals.
With various personnel changes over the years, the band always maintained the highest level of professionalism and musicianship. This collection captures some of the highlights of the 1960’s & 1970’s and provides a nostalgic glimpse into an era where, for the price of a drink, people were able to dance and enjoy some of the best shows and personalities ever to be featured in a night club!

When Father Glen Willis, SDS was born in Philadelphia in 1941, he arrived with some extraordinary providential gifts. A beautifully warm singing voice and an amiable disposition were amongst them. From his earliest days, music and stories were second nature to him. As a priest, he has discovered that his musical compositions and performances greatly enhance the effectiveness of his sermons and teaching.

For over 40 years, Fr. Glen and his guitar spent considerable time at Camp St. Charles in Southern Maryland, where kids and staff delight to his stories and original songs. During his tenure, the Camp St. Charles Endowment Fund for needy families was established. The proceeds of this CD will benefit this fund.
